TIPS FOR THE BEST STAYCATION

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR WEEKEND.

-

While we often equate an unbearably long plane ride with discovery mode, sometimes you can have as much fun in your own city simply by doing a bit of research. Your friends and family will always be the easiest source for the best new things to do, but there are plenty of other resources if you’re willing to put in a bit of effort.

WEBSITES

With mainstays like Time Out and TripAdvisor, or slightly edgier local offerings like Broadsheet and Concrete Playground, there are a number of excellent ways for finding the best things to do in your hometown this weekend. Websites are still the best resource for up-to-the-minute local event offerings, so it’s worth sifting through their troves before exploring more obscure sources.

ADD LOCATIONS TO MAPS

While the Happiest Hour app has all your watering holes covered, you might want to create a list of cafés or pizza restaurants you’d love to try, so that if you ever happen to be near one, you can try it on a whim. Simply search for a location on Google Maps, hit the save button, add it to the relevant list and, for power users, add any notes you might want (‘the best croissants in the city’ or ‘$2 between 2pm and 4pm’, for example).

ADD EVENTS TO YOUR CALENDAR

It can be easy to forget things you aren’t 100% certain about. Adding a calendar event using Siri, Google Now, Alexa or your good old fashioned thumbs, however, isn’t that hard and your future self will thank you for the well timed nudge.

FACEBOOK

While many people attempt to curb their Facebook addiction, it’s actually an amazing resource for finding upcoming events and gigs. If you ever bothered to list every band you like in the ‘About You’ section on your profile, then you’ll get a nice feed of tailored concert prompts.
