YOU’RE A LITTLE bird flying across different shades of sky (ranging from perfect blue to dazzling sunsets and eerie sunrises), tasked with freeing other birds that are trapped in bubbles and avoiding the ‘white balls’ that float or zoom through the air around you like metal planets of death. Getting to grips with how your bird moves takes only a little while, but the relaxing opening levels are quickly ramped up, meaning you’re soon put to the test. Collecting birds means you can shoot them ahead of you, destroying the white balls in your path. Land a successful hit, and the bird will return to your side to be ready to fire again. Miss your target and that bird is gone forever, meaning if you run out of birds, it’s ‘face-first into planet’ time. While this costs you a points penalty, it doesn’t end the level, so you can continue on your merry way, just expect to be ranked low on the leaderboard at the end. This table serves as motivation to try again and beat your previous score, which worked only half the time. (Sometimes, we were happy to accept a bad score just to avoid doing a certain level again!) Going too far up or down will end the level. Death and/or finishing a level means that you have to watch an ad, which can be removed for just 99c. It’s a very beautiful game and the controls are super simple, but can’t do this one on autopilot.
