COLOUR CORRECTION WITH CURVES

THE EASY METHOD TO FIX A PHOTO’S HUES.

To correct colour casts, you simply apply the opposing colour to the one that’s visible in the image. The difficult part is that you need to train your eyes to ‘see’ colour casts, and this takes practice. And for really successful colour work, you need to have a calibrated screen.

So now here’s the easy part. Curves has four channel options: RGB is for overall brightness and contrast, and the individual Red, Green and Blue channels are for colour work. Lifting the curve up and to the left adds the channel’s named colour, but dragging it the opposite way applies the opposing colour. Here’s how they work: Red/Cyan, Green/Magenta and Blue/Yellow.
