Removing animals from the food chain
AS A LOVER of a good steak and chewer of dried meats, I approached this product rather sceptically. The scientists at Incredible Foods broke down the flavours, textures and scents of beef burger patties and have reproduced it using only plant-based ingredients. It bleeds like meat on the BBQ, and when uncooked it feels like mince in the hand… and when savoured, it damn well tastes like beef. There are some secret ingredients in the Incredible Burger Version 2.0 that make the company the only ones able to replicate the characteristics of beef, including nutrition – but without the cholesterol. It’s doing so well that American burger chain, White Castle, has put it on their menu and it sells extremely well. This is food technology at its best and we can’t wait to see it arrive in Australia once it receives regulatory approval.
