Lenovo Smart Display 10
HIGH-RES HERO.
IF YOU’RE LOOKING for a smart display that does double duty as a compact, all-in-one video player, the Lenovo Smart Display 10 is the best option. This device offers the same 10-inch display as the flagship models from Amazon and Google, but it bumps the screen resolution up to a sharp 1,920 x 1,200 – a pixel jump that makes a real difference when you’re streaming content from YouTube, Google Play, or Stan.
One thing we missed from the Google-branded smart displays, however, is the Ambient EQ. As well as adjusting the screen brightness automatically, this feature adjusts the colour temperature of the screen, which somehow eliminates the tell-tale backlight of the LCD to make it look like an actual framed picture.
The wedge-shaped design and attractive, bamboo-covered rear makes the Lenovo Smart Display 10 a good choice for the kitchen or desktop. You can actually sit it in vertical orientation, but only the Google Duo video calling function switches the screen orientation accordingly. This is likely a limitation of the Google Assistant platform, but having the whole system switch dynamically from landscape to portrait would’ve been a great way to reduce the smart display’s footprint without sacrificing on screen size.
The Lenovo Smart Display 10 functions quite similarly to the Google Nest Hub Max, but with a few important differences. The 5MP camera is limited to video calls only (which means no facial recognition, gesture support or security camera functions), and it lacks the far-field microphones that enable other Smart Displays (like the Nest Hub and Echo Show) to pick up voice commands when you’re in another room.
