HOW TO Create a Shortcut to play a Podcast

CHOOSE A PODCAST This will play the current episode of the podcast you choose, but to make it easier to find we’re first going to subscribe to it in the Podcasts app. So, open Podcasts, search for the one you want and tap Subscribe next to its name.

CREATE THE SHORTCUT Open Shortcuts and tap the “+” at the top of the screen. Tap More (…), then tap Shortcut Name. Type in the name you want to give your shortcut and then tap on the icon to the left ready for the next step.

CHOOSE A COLOR AND ICONTap on a color, then tap Glyph. Choose a symbol. Select from the options beneath to pick whether you want to add it to your Home screen, show it in the Today widget, or in share sheets. Tap Done.

ADD AN ACTION Tap Add Action, then on the next screen, tap Apps. Scroll down until you see the Podcasts app and tap it. Tap Play Podcast. Back in the main window, tap inside the action where it says Podcast so you can specify which podcast to play.

CHOOSE A PODCAST You’ll see a list of podcasts you have subscribed to in the Podcasts app. If you can’t see the one you want, tap in the search box to find one. The third option is “Ask each time,” which will prompt you to choose when you run the shortcut.

TEST THE SHORTCUT Tap Done when you’ve chosen the podcast. In Shortcuts main window, tap the shortcut to run it. It should start playing the podcast. If you’ve added it to the Today Widget, you can tap it there to run it. Or activate Siri and say its name.
