HOW TO Find a good place to eat

-

1

CHOOSE YOUR THING When you open Maps you’ll see the search bar and some useful icons below it. These are the ones we want to use to find stuff in different categories. Let’s select Food and Drinks so we can find a nearby restaurant – just tap it.

2

SEE THE RESULTS By default, the Food and Drink category shows you all kinds of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby, but you can refine the selection with the icons at the top of the search panel. Tap one of the results to see more.

3

PICK A PLACE When you tap a result, you’ll see its location in the main Maps screen, and you’ll also see the information panel at the left. This brings you photos of the place and reviews from TripAdvisor, as well as other details.

4

READ THE REVIEWS The Apple Pay icon tells us that this particular establishment accepts Apple Pay, and the selection of reviews tells us whether people think it’s a good restaurant. Maps also links to TripAdvisor for more reviews.

5

BOOK A TABLE This restaurant doesn’t book online, so we’ll have to phone. You can do that inside Maps: just tap the number. If you’re on iPad, you’ll need your iPhone nearby and signed into the same iCloud account to make calls.

6

SHARE THE BOOKING Scroll back up towards the top and you’ll see the Share icon. Tap on that and you can share the Maps location via various apps. Here we’re going to share using Apple’s Message app, so someone else can see it.

7

CHECK THE MESSAGE As you can see, Maps has included a nice little thumbnail showing the actual location of our chosen place. The recipient can tap on that to open it in the Maps app on their own device to see all the info we’ve already found.

8

GET DIRECTIONS As you’d expect, tapping on Directions tells you the best way to get there from where you are. You can also forward these directions by tapping Share and choosing the app you want to share them with.

9

SAVE FOR LATER You can save a location as a favorite, or you can save it to your Contacts app so that it’s available in your phone or email app too. Maps automatically copies the relevant information across.
