Easily sync your devices

Sync a variety of different devices with SyncMate.

Syncing is a wonderful thing: Just last night we were finishing a Keynote presentation on iPad that we’d started on our Mac and rehearsed on our iPhone.

But Apple’s approach, to sync via iCloud, has some flaws: It isn’t interested in devices that don’t have an Apple logo on them – and it can sometimes be a little hesitant to update things, as we’ve learnt the hard way when our devices didn’t have the files we thought they did. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a crossdevice sync that gave you complete control of everything?

Enter SyncMate, which syncs data with iOS, iPadOS and Android devices, all your cloud storage services such as Google Drive and Dropbox, multiple Macs, mapped network drives and Microsoft Office services too.

SyncMate 8 comes in two versions, Free and Expert. Free only syncs your Calendar and your Contacts while Expert adds folders, SMS messages, reminders, bookmarks, photos, and your Music or iTunes library.

It’s worth noting that available options depend on what you’re connecting to so, for example, if you connect your Mac to an iPad you’ll be able to sync your Calendar, Contacts, Folders, Photos, Safari bookmarks and Music or iTunes, but not Reminders or SMS.

For all we moan about it, iCloud is still pretty good if all your devices are from Apple. But for people with kit from all kinds of different companies, SyncMate is a very handy tool. CARRIE MARSHALL
