Get in the picture with these cool apps that help you edit and share images and video.
VLC
From videolan.org Available on Mac, iOS, iPadOS This free, open-source media player isn’t just a handy playback app. It’s also a time machine because it can play almost anything in almost any format, including old video formats that we barely even remember. If you want to watch it, it’s likely that VLC can play it.
DOUBLETAKE
From filmicpro.com Available on iOS, iPadOS If you have an iPhone XR or later, or an iPad Pro, this app turns your device into a multi-camera studio that captures video from the front and rear cameras simultaneously. That opens up creative possibilities and some practical ones too, such as real–time reaction shots.
PHOTOSCAPE X
From x.photoscape.org Available on Mac PhotoScape X was designed to be “easy and fun”, and it actually achieves both. It’s a simple, straightforward image editor with some filters and useful editing tools. While there’s also a paid-for version, the free version isn’t unnecessarily limited.
SEASHORE
From Mac App Store Available on Mac Seashore is based around the same core as the GIMP photo editor but has a different focus. It’s been made for everyday photo editing rather than power users, so it’s more user-friendly. It’s simple, speedy, straightforward, and ideal for basic editing tasks.
SNAPSEED
From google.com Available on iOS, iPadOS Google’s photo editor is an excellent mobile studio that enables you to do all kinds of things to JPEG and Raw files (but not the HEIC images your iPhone may be set to shoot). There are lots of color adjustments and some nice photo filters that work well on people.
GOOGLE PHOTOS
From google.com/photos Available on Mac, iOS, iPadOS Google Photos is a subset of the Google Drive desktop app and a standalone app for iPhone and iPad. It can automatically back up photos to Google’s cloud to free up storage space on your device, the editing options are comprehensive, and it’s easy to share images.
