We love a moneysaving tip or trick at tl!, and this week’s Ms MoneySaver on page 55, got the team talking. It’s about at-home beauty treatments and ways to pamper yourself without breaking the bank. It reminded me of when I was a bridesmaid for a friend, and she treated her bridal party to a facial as a thank you. ‘Is there anything I can do about my eye bags?’ I asked the beautician, after a sleepless night feeling nervous about the wedding. ‘Honestly,’ she told me, ‘cold cucumber slices are as good as anything you’ll buy for getting rid of dark circles.’ I guess it’s a classic for a reason! And our team had a few tips and do not recommends

of their own. ‘I love a homemade face mask,’ Beth said. ‘I’ve done egg whites, avo and honey.’ Eggs and avo sounds like a yummy brekkie treat to me, but Beth swears it works for her skin! She also admitted to putting lemon juice in her hair to bleach it when she was a teen. ‘That one doesn’t work,’ she told us. Holly recommended a coffee grounds, sugar and coconut oil exfoliating scrub but advised us to be careful not to slip in the shower! I can’t say I’ve tried many beauty treatments myself, but I do vividly recall my nan Brenda scrubbing my scalp with malt vinegar when I caught head lice aged nine. It could have been worse... ‘My mum put kerosene on my hair for nits,’ Holly said. ‘I think I lost a few brain cells!’ These days, that’s absolutely not recommended, so please don’t try it at home!

Eggs and avo sounds like a brekkie treat
