Letters from the Ed
L Pet owners everywhere can relate to Rosie, the 12-year-old star of our story on page 63 this week. When Rosie’s precious guinea pig, Maxibon, was attacked by a python in her backyard, Rosie leapt into action to save her pet. Thankfully, Maxibon and
Rosie were okay after the encounter, and the snake was sent on its way, but anyone who loves animals can understand Rosie’s protective instinct kicking in. Her story got the tl! team talking about times they’d come to the rescue. Beth and her fiancé Suddy got a fright when a kookaburra flew into their car on a road trip. ’We pulled up and thought we’d killed it,’ Beth said. ‘But it was stuck in the grill by its beak, poor thing.’ A passing tradie stopped too, and together they gently rescued the bird. ‘It flew off, no probs!’ Beth smiled. Claudia battled her fear of possums to aid a stricken joey. ‘It fell out of a tree, but I was so scared of it,’ she told us. Still, she scooped it into a box and took it to a vet. Mari once found a ginger cat who’d wedged himself into a tiny gap between a balcony rail and brick wall. ‘I dangled my jumper into the gap, and he clung on for dear life,’ she said. It’s so nice to know people will help however they can. As for saving pets, my mum once found our goldfish Pongo lifeless on the kitchen bench after he’d leapt out of his tank. Panicked, she tried CPR. Blowing into his gills, and rubbing his chest, she was thrilled when he revived! Have you saved an animal? We’d love to hear about it!
