We used an espresso machine for a rich coffee flavour. If you don’t have one, you can buy espresso from a cafe. ---------To make your own coffee with a plunger, place ¼ cup finely ground coffee beans in a small plunger; pour over 2/3 cup boiling water. Stand for 3 minutes. Plunge coffee, then measure ½ cup. To use instant coffee, stir 1½ tablespoon­s instant coffee granules into ½ cup boiling water. ---------If making ahead of time, reheat the syrup just before serving.
