Father’s Day is observed in many countries, but only Australia, New Zealand, PNG and Fiji celebrate it in September. In 1909, a young American woman, Sonora Smart Dodd, was celebrating Mother’s Day when she decided there should be a day for her dad, a single parent who had raised six children. She lobbied for its observance and the idea caught on.
