She survived Ebola, but not the stigma

Médecins Sans Frontières Ebola nurse and Time magazine’s 2014 Person of the Year, Salomé Harris, (née Karwah) has died following a caesarean section in Liberia. Salome had given birth to her fourth child and been discharged from hospital when she began convulsing. Her husband, James Harris, and her sister, Josephine Manley, rushed her to casualty, but hospital staff refused to touch her for fear of the Ebola virus. Salomé was immune to the virus, having survived the outbreak that decimated her family and her town in 2014. Her sister says no one knows what caused Salomé’s death, but she believes that she might have lived had she received treatment.
