The Australian Women's Weekly

Kim Doherty

Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Women’s Weekly

-

It was a high school teacher who gave The Weekly’s Editorin-Chief, Kim Doherty, a piece of advice she has lived by: you miss 100 per cent of the shots you never take. “I like the thought that, if you don’t try, you’ve missed out already. It’s about being brave enough to have a go,” Kim says. “Young people can think, ‘If I try and fail that’s somehow a bad thing’, when actually failing is the next step to success. It’s an important step to success.”

In selecting the winners of the Women of the Future Awards, Kim will be looking for people who are passionate about what they do and will inspire and energise the women around them, in particular the next generation. Kim had a generous mentor in former Editor of The Weekly, Ita Buttrose, who isn’t afraid to push her to do better. “I’m very grateful for Ita’s time, advice and honesty,” says Kim. “She has never pulled any punches.” Kim’s advice to our award hopefuls is to believe in yourself.
