CANINE RESCUE SQUAD
There’s a new search and rescue team on the beat. Police and firefighters in Sydney are training a squad of Belgian Malinois dogs to find survivors in the rubble after explosions, building collapses and earthquakes. The dogs’ training ground has been designed to replicate an urban disaster. The dexterous dogs, originally bred for herding, wear protective boots to bound across the rocky surface, sniffing out mock survivors in tunnels below.
