A ROMANTIC DASH TO FULFIL A DYING WISH
A RACE AGAINST TIME was behind Australia’s first same-sex marriage, it has been revealed, as authorities did all they could to allow a terminally ill woman to marry her love. The waiting period was waived for Queensland couple Jill Kindt (left) and Jo Grant, and the couple’s nuptials were approved and registered all in one day. A staff member dashed from Brisbane to a roadside service station to hand over the certificate. Jo died on January 30, after 48 days of marriage.
