Teacher-turnedauthor Madeline Miller won the 2012 Orange Prize for fiction for her debut novel, The Song of

Achilles. The mum-oftwo was raised in New York and Philadelphia and says her childhood was “imaginatively rich and isolated ... I’ve wanted to write since I was seven. It took me a few more decades to claim ‘writer’.” Madeline was “absolutely bowled over” by the success of Achilles and adds the Greek myths “are timeless mirrors of human nature”.
