About the author
Teacher-turnedauthor Madeline Miller won the 2012 Orange Prize for fiction for her debut novel, The Song of
Achilles. The mum-oftwo was raised in New York and Philadelphia and says her childhood was “imaginatively rich and isolated ... I’ve wanted to write since I was seven. It took me a few more decades to claim ‘writer’.” Madeline was “absolutely bowled over” by the success of Achilles and adds the Greek myths “are timeless mirrors of human nature”. She’s currently working on two projects: “One inspired by Vergil’s
Aeneid, and one inspired by Shakespeare’s Tempest, but which one will be next, I have no idea!”
