By the age of 65 one in two are af­fected by hear­ing loss. Males have higher rates due to higher ex­po­sure to work­place noise. It can sneak up, so have a hear­ing check ev­ery two to three years after 50, and ev­ery 12 months over 65. Watch for trou­ble hear­ing con­ver­sa­tions in noisy places, lis­ten­ing to TV and ra­dio at an in­creased level and ring­ing, pain or buzzing in the ears.
