Silkwood bowlers had an enjoyable outing on the Tablelands last weekend, playing at Yungaburra on Saturday when the two clubs competed for the Daveson Cup which the home side wrested back from us with a decisive win. We went on to Atherton on Sunday for the first visit we have made to that club in recent times and they also scored a comprehensive win, but that loss did not mar the enjoyable time we had as their guests for the day. Silkwood’s next commitment in men’s pennants is at Gordonvale on June 13 when we hope to improve on our record of two wins from six matches to date. Social — Wednesday: D Watt/J Bucklar/M Pedrola d L Lomas/T Grant/A Hudson 22-17, C Lomas/A Fleming/C Tarditi d D Tarditi/C Lowe/J Messina 24-12. No play on Sunday due to our Tablelands visit. Visitors and beginners are welcome to our social bowls afternoons on Wednesday and Sunday, with names in by 1pm, and our barbecue and roll-up on Friday night starting at 6pm. Bowls are available for use free of charge. Club Championships: As we get to the pointy end players produced their best with some surprises along the track. Albert Holder is playing top bowls having good wins and Tim Kerrigan pulled off a big one with his success over Tyler Edgerton, who had scored a win over Eddie Pershouse. Shane McInerney and Brandon Smith jumped to an early lead and held on for their victory over Tony Burns and Rod Parmenter. The biggest turn up in the fours when ‘’the Young Ones,’’ Peter Longford/Wally Kriesel/Tyler Edgerton/Skip ‘’Roy the Boy’’ McCarthy battled on to pip the ‘’Beach Boys’’ Arthur Guli/John Zaini/Michael Roots/Skip Shane Dunne. Please contact Bryan Walker on 4067 6764 for further games. The jackpot went off and two players took home $200 each. Unfortunately there was no bowls on Saturday because of rain. Wednesday and Saturday social bowls start at 1pm and what better place to be on those days than on a grass green. To help selectors it is preferable if names could be in by about 11.30am. The Club’s telephone number is 4055 1344, and if you leave a message please also leave a call-back number. This helps in the event of cancellations due to wet weather. Bowls uniform is optional. Beginners and newcomers are welcome. Friday night bowls are held from 6.30pm onwards. We have bowls for your use, and beginners are welcome. For more details contact Josie on 0418 290 432 or the Club on 4055 1344.
