THE Cairns Chamber of Commerce is offering local businesses the opportunity to rub shoulders with project proponents, investors and mine executives representing more than $20 billion to the regional economy.

Those attending include representatives of Metro Mining (Bauxite Hills project $2b), Vital Metals (Watershed tungsten project $140m), Consolidated Tin Mines (projects planned with the value of $3b), Barrick Gold (largest gold mining company in the world, projects include the Porgera gold mine in Papua New Guinea), Carbine Tungsten (Mt Carbine project $50m) and Atherton Resources, previously Mangana Mines (Chillagoe project).

Tourism developments will be represented by Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort ($8.15b), Ella Bay Integrated Resort Development ($1.81b), the Cairns Aquarium ($50m CBD development) and Cairns Adventure Waters ($45m), while others include Etheridge Integrated Agriculture Project ($2b integrated irrigated agricultural project on the Gilbert River system), the Golden Lakes ($122m development), the Mount Peter Development ($768m Edmonton Business and Industry Park) and Lyon Infrastructure (Cook Shire Solar and Storage Project – $74.5m).

Businesses that have attended this event over the past nine years have experienced significant rewards as a result of their participation. Wendy Morris of the $420m Mount Emerald Wind Farm Project said it was very worthwhile.

“The Cairns Chamber of Commerce’s initiative of bringing mining and major project company executives to Cairns over Amateurs over the last nine years has proven to be a successful formula in helping many local businesses connect and supply these large projects,” she said.

“Last year was another outstanding success with a range of large projects and local supply companies able to make useful contacts that will positively reverberate through the regional economy in the years to come.”

The exclusive ‘ Major Projects and Mining Familiarisation’ event is being held for the 10th consecutive year over Amateurs weekend on September 11 and 12.

The goal of the event is to provide member delegates with exclusive access to major the representatives to showcase their businesses and what they have to offer.

The event starts with a cocktail party on September 11, which is followed by a regional “Opportunities, Resources and Capabilities” information session (by helicopter) and a day at the races on September 12 in a VIP marquee.

Only 12 Cairns Chamber of Commerce members will have the opportunity to be matched and to meet the VIP guests.

Businesses are invited to submit an expression of interest online via www.cairnschamber. or by calling Tanya Corbett on 4031 1838.
