Excitement builds for new college
MACKILLOP Catholic College at Mount Peter will have an open day on Sunday November 8 between 10am and 1pm, at the site of the new College at 1 MacKillop Road. Everyone is welcome. Tours of the facilities under construction will be offered, as well as addresses by architect Mark Buttrose, Catholic Education executive director Bill Dixon and college principal Luke Reed.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the teaching staff and enjoy a free sausage sizzle and kids’ activities.
Enrolment applications will be taken on the day and families can also download the forms beforehand from the college website.
Construction is on-track for handover and occupation of the administration area in midOctober.
The $5.57 million first stage of construction of the masterplanned college will be complete well in time for the start of the 2016 school year.
MacKillop Catholic College will open with Prep to Year 3 and grow progressively until Year 12 is reached. The College is already planning expansion to have facilities ready for Year 5 and Year 6 in 2018 and 2019.
MacKillop Catholic College will be a multi-stream school and, when complete, is expected to have enrolments of more than 1500 students, similar in size to Cairns Catholic Education’s other Prep to Year 12 college, St Andrew’s Catholic College at Redlynch.
