Heat give fans pass

Free entry offer to home game semi-final

THE FNQ Heat will offer a free kick to football fans with free entry to Barlow Park on Saturday night and defender Josh Jennison will be part of the team effort to make it worth the while of those who take up the offer.

The 22-year-old returned from months of illness against South West Queensland Thunder last week and said the team wanted to make amends for a poor showing against Gold Coast City.

Jennison expected the visitors, who finished second on the NPL Queensland ladder, to be a handful with attacking threats across the park.

“They’ll be a tough game. The boys know there’s a couple of really good midfielders in the side who could cause some damage,” he said.

“I’m not too sure what the Gold Coast players will be thinking about coming to Cairns, but we haven’t really been talking about it. We need to focus on ourselves.”

Jennison said he was just happy to be back on the field again after succumbing to an infection after surgery for appendicitis, which he recovered from only to contract tonsillitis.

“It never ends. Injury after injury. It has been six weeks and I’ve been doing nothing,” he said.

“It’s just so annoying. You get a little bit fitter and you start getting a bit more confident and then you’re back to square one and even a bit behind that.”

Jennison said the squad intended delivering fans a much better performance than the one last Saturday that resulted in the club’s first loss at Barlow Park all season.

“I’m sure there’s definitely a couple of boys who want to make up for the result last week,” he said.

“I don’t think everyone gave their all because we knew we were in the finals, which was disappointing considering we were playing for a home semi.

“Being a semi-final I’m sure the boys will step up and I’m pretty confident of a good performance.”

The Heat are calling on volunteers to assist with game day activities. Phone Mandy Carney on 0455 540225, email office@fnqfc.com.au or visit the club on Facebook.
