A GARDEN once described by Better Homes and Gardens host Graham Ross as among the best in Queensland will be open to the public this weekend for charity.

John “Taffy” Lewis’ Redlynch property features a multitude of models and separate sections. It includes his “pride and joy” – a privet hedge Q150 steam train replica.

There is also a “coral garden”, with Nemo, lighthouses, and other fish designs.

While he described it as only a small block, Mr Lewis said he used a method called “close proximity planting” to blend the mostly native vegetation into the mountains surrounding the suburb.

Entry to the garden is by gold coin donation, with all money going Cancer Project.

Mr Lewis said he chose the charity because the illness has claimed the lives of both his sister and his wife.

“Cancer has played a very prominent part in my life – I lost my sister at age 12 so when to The Kids’ I saw the Kids’ Cancer Project I thought ‘I’m raising money for that’,” he said.

Mr Lewis’ garden will be opened from 10am tomorrow and Sunday, and again on September 24 and 25.

The address is 12 Russellia St, Redlynch.
