BROTHER’S PLEA TO DRIVER

- — Michael Bradley

“I would like to say to the person who did it, to come forward, not so that they can be prosecuted and punished — because that will not do anyone any justice in the reality of the situation — but to give some sense of closure to our family. “It has been almost a month since my brother was alone on the side of the road, probably more scared than he had ever been in his short life and wishing that someone would come soon to get him out of that unimaginably horrifying scenario. “If the person stopped, there is a good chance that they could have saved his life. “My brother was a fighter in life. He was not weak in any way. He would have made a full recovery. We all would have. “The thing is, it’s not that people want to go out and kill someone and ruin the lives of the waves of people which were close enough to that person to feel their pain. It’s that people are not always taught the value of life. “They don’t understand how precious it is and that it indeed is the most important thing we have here. “It’s not understood that overcoming the ego to take the blame for something and save a life is always more important than thinking of one’s own trivial, momentary situation. “Now we have to live in a nightmare from which we cannot wake, lying awake at night, wondering in hopelessness what happened to our son and brother that evening. “Life will never be the same. Things cannot be reversed, but the right thing can still be done. “Forgiveness comes to those who deserve it, and the longer the person who made the mistake of thinking short-term rather than long-term does not help us (more than anyone else can right now), our minds, heart and lives will continue to be poisoned with these questions, questions and more questions. “I ask for the poor soul to let the guilt stop eating at their peace of mind and to come forward, so that we in turn can also begin to move forward. Don’t let us all go backwards.”
