RISING Cairns band Machine Machine haven’t even record their debut EP, but they have already won a major music prize.

The four-piece outfit won the Cairns regional division of the Passport to Airlie 2016 Battle of the Bands competition last Sunday.

The win means the boys will play multiple sets at November’s Airlie Beach Festival of Music and, while there, compete for the chance to perform on the main stage at next year’s festival.

This year’s event line-up includes performances from The Ramones’ Richie Ramone and Split Enz’s Tim Finn.

Machine Machine’s Dylan Hooper, 19, put part of the reason for their success in the Cairns division down to they fact that they did not play as though it was a competition.

“We did it as if it was just any other show,” he said.
