Adjournment in Verney drug case
THE matters against former Northern Pride and Cowboys player charged with supplying and possessing dangerous drugs have been adjourned to next month.
Jared Rawiri Verney is accused of possessing 25 pills, alleged to be ecstasy.
It is alleged that Mr Verney was filmed acting suspiciously on City Safe CCTV cameras near the intersection of Lake and Shields streets.
Police will further alleged that Mr Verney was caught hiding drugs in his underwear.
He appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court for the first time yesterday since being charged earlier this month.
The Ivanhoes halfback was represented by duty solicitor Mark Butler, who requested a three week adjournment.
Mr Verney is charged with possessing and supplying a schedule one drug.
Matters were adjourned to October 20.
