Fears for pup taken away from refuge

- KATHERINE KOKKONEN

THE Mareeba Animal Refuge manager has been left “sick in the guts” after a puppy was stolen from the facility.

Jennifer Walsh said she was concerned about the welfare of the nine-week-old puppy, which had been vaccinated but still required a booster.

“He’s not fully covered,” she said. “I worry what sort of hands he’s in. It sort of makes you sick in the guts.”

Due to renovations at the refuge, Diamond and her puppies had been moved from their pen to the exercise yard.

Ms Walsh discovered a puppy was missing when she moved the dogs back to their pen last Tuesday.

Ms Walsh said the Bull Arab Dane cross puppy would have been available for adoption for $280, which includes vaccinations, desexing and microchipping.

“A lot of people don’t want to pay that sort of money for an animal,” she said.

If you are interested in adopting Diamond or one of her puppies, contact Mareeba Animal Refuge on 4092 3060. Anyone with information on the theft can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,
