Adam Bandt mouthing off about global warming. Somebody tell him there is no such thing as climate change, the weather controls its own destiny, it has nothing to do with climate change. People like you try to confuse people. Doug, Edmonton
Regarding Doug from Edmonton’s text (29/9) about a desalination plant for Cairns. This is totally inappropriate technology for a wet tropic region. It is fine where there is a shortage of water, but we have no shortage of water, merely a shortage of water storage capacity. Desalination plants are very expensive to install, maintain and operate and would increase the cost of water supplied. Mike, Bayview Heights

Werner Sandner (letters 29/9) wonders how the Greens can hold Labor hostage to alarmism without any seats. The answer is preferences. Jackie Trad and Steven Miles are Greens by default as they rely on Green preferences for their seats. Higgs, Tolga
Mr Entsch has declared that he will rid Cairns city of the bats. To do so he would need to replace venomous snakes, also reckon it will wipe out the crocs; the bull sharks will love that decision. So will the deadly mozzies when all the micro bats are gone. Rex, Edmonton
Cairns Hospital. Can anyone tell us who appointed the five board members who recently resigned. Were they selected from a list of applicants or were they political appointments? Don, Earlville
