Sinner Cooper a winner

RUGBY UNION QUADE Cooper is the most sin-binned Wallaby in history for his tackling flaws but he also holds the key to snapping a 53-year drought in hostile Pretoria on Sunday morning.

It is unheard of for a flyhalf to collect six yellow cards across his Test career and no one has copped as many as the four he has been handed in the past 14 months.

Wallabies great David Campese yesterday stressed Cooper’s growing confidence at the helm was more important than a few poor tackles.

Campese said the Wallabies had the firepower to stun South Africa on Sunday morning (1.05am AEST) but only if key backs Israel Folau and Reece Hodge got busier as passing targets.

“Quade’s confidence and form are up for his main job to create opportunit­ies to win this Test,” Campese said.

Australian cricket captain Steve Smith will take a day off their South African tour to join Campese among the few Aussies in the pumping 40,000-plus crowd at Loftus Versfeld.
