Titans eye state game for talent
THE Titans will be keeping a close eye on Sunday’s State Championship, with COO Tony Mestrov saying there could be spots for Burleigh players at the club next year.
The Bears will go into this weekend’s clash with the Illawarra Cutters mindful that a number of their stars are being watched by NRL clubs.
With Cameron Cullen (Manly) and Jamal Fogarty (Parramatta) already heading down south, Burleigh CEO Damian Driscoll is expecting to lose more players after the match, the curtain-raiser to the NRL grand final.
But he hopes some of those players can stay close to home.
Driscoll said he knows the Titans are watching closely, with Mestrov confirming there are a “few spots” left for 2017, particularly for forwards.
“We never ever shut the doors on any opportunity, particularly when they’re on a large stage like this,” Mestrov said ahead of Sunday’s game.
“If there are performers at that level who come out of a pressure-cooker situation strongly, of course we would look at them.
“Players 1-17 have an opportunity. There are a few spots left on our roster ... we’re looking to bolster our back row stocks and front row too.”
