Embrace fluoride benefits
THE continuing foolishness shown by two Manning led councils regarding the fluoridation issue could be considered laughable if it were not so serious.
While, not containing a single dentally qualified member, the Cairns Regional Council continues, in its ignorance, to dispute the results of over 60 years research by scientific and dental authorities regarding water fluoridation.
By so doing it continues to place the dental health of our local population at risk.
Already, we are seeing an increase in local dental problems, particularly in our young people, since the-then Manning led council removed fluoride from our water in 2013.
When applied at scientifically recommended levels, fluoridation has been proved to be harmless.
Cr Manning. You and your council members must stop treating this matter as a voting issue.
In the same way that chlorine is added to our water supply to prevent infections of plague proportions so is fluoride added for similar reasons.
Fluoridation is a public health, not a voting, issue and must be respected as such. Dr Colin Day, Redlynch
