BIKIE LINK TO BRAWL
Alleged Lone Wolf members to face court over clash in club
THREE alleged bikie gang members on an end-of-season footy trip will front court today over a wild brawl at a Cairns nightclub.
The trio, alleged to be linked to the Lone Wolf motorbike gang, were among five people charged over the fight, which broke out in the Attic nightclub on Grafton St about midnight on Saturday.
It is alleged the group were part of a Tweed Heads rugby league team in Cairns for an end-of-season football trip.
The five men, aged between 21 and 34, are charged with either bodily harm in company or affray and are due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
It is understood the team had been partying inside the club when security approached some of them and asked them to leave and a fight allegedly broke out.
Cairns police Det Sen-Sgt Ed Kinbacher said two of the bouncers were injured in the alleged “melee”, one sustaining large cuts to his head and ear.
One of the bouncers was transported by ambulance to Cairns Hospital for treatment.
Police have seized CCTV footage of the alleged incident which was only believed to have lasted about 90 seconds.
It is alleged that one of the men threw a glass at a bouncer during the fight, causing the head wound.
The Lone Wolf bikie gang is not known to have a presence in the Far North and Det SenSgt Kinbacher said the incident was particularly concerning and the remainder of the team would be monitored during their stay.
“What is concerning is out of town motorcycle gangs coming into town and causing problems,” he said. “We will be paying particular attention to their presence and make sure any illegality is bought to the attention of the courts.”
Two of the alleged gang members, aged 21 and 22, have been charged with assault, while the third, a 34-year-old, is charged with affray.
The remaining two men, aged 24 and 32, are not alleged to be gang members.
Police operated a major incident centre yesterday during the investigation.
WE WILL BE PAYING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THEIR PRESENCE AND MAKE SURE ANY ILLEGALITY IS BOUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE COURTS
