Liverpool Klopp it in Red-mist rocket

-

A HALFTIME blast from manager Juergen Klopp did the trick as Liverpool scored a 2-1 comeback win over Swansea to go provisionally second in the English Premier League.

The result for the Reds came as Chelsea picked up a much-needed victory with a 2-0 success at Hull.

Hosts Swansea took an early lead at the Liberty Stadium through Leroy Fer, but Roberto Firmino equalised for the visitors in the 54th minute.

James Milner then struck from the spot for the fourth time this season in the 84th minute after Firmino had been fouled by Angel Rangel.

“I was very angry. I have lost a lot of football games, but today makes no sense,” Klopp said. “We were not ready and it is my responsibility.

“We got better in the second half and when we let the ball roll it became difficult for Swansea. The second half was better, but still not brilliant.”

The defeat will keep pressure on Swans manager Francesco Guidolin, whose side have lost five of their last six in the league and sit just above the relegation zone.

“My team played a very good game, Liverpool is a very strong team,” he said.

“The draw would have been the right result.”

Chelsea steadied their ship after two straight losses.

Willian put the Blues in front in the second half and Diego Costa clinched the three points with his league-best sixth goal.

West Ham avoided a fifth straight loss with a 1-1 home draw against Middlesbrough.

Cristhian Stuani put Boro ahead at the London Stadium, before West Ham winger Dimitri Payet lit up a drab game in the 57th minute.

The France international dropped a shoulder to turn past Antonio Barragan on the left touchline, jinked around Marten de Roon, and sweetly skipped past Calum Chambers and Ben Gibson.

After cutting through the defence with ease, Payet provided the perfect finish to score his first goal of the league.

“It reminded me of Lionel Messi’s goals,” said West Ham manager Slaven Bilic. “It was a brilliant moment of magic.”

Winless Sunderland moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-1 home draw against West Bromwich Albion.

Watford twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth.
