Versatile Noni wins praise
NONI Hazlehurst’s empathy for others has been touted as one of the many reasons the beloved actor was right for the role of homeless woman Christie in Mother.
The play will visit the Cen- tre of Contemporary Cairns on October 29.
Hazlehurst portrays Christie, a figure on the fringes of society, in the one-woman play.
For its director Matt Scholten, the qualities that make Hazlehurst’s turn as Christie right are varied. Arts,
“She is able to inhabit a character,” he said.
“If you look at her body of work, it’s a tremendous body of both drama and comedy and music. And so her versatility is a really important thing.”
