Police raid offices of NRL agent
SAM Ayoub has declared he has “nothing to hide’’ after NSW police yesterday broke into the NRL player agent’s office to seize files during a series of dramatic raids by the NSW Fraud and Cybercrime Squad.
Ayoub (pictured) was in Brisbane following another day of NRL controversy that saw the NSW police put Parramatta back in the spotlight when the confidential files of several former and current Eels players were seized in a series of search warrant raids.
Police from Strike Force Rhodium raided the offices of high-profile agents Ayoub, George Mimis, Paul Sutton and the home of Wayne Beavis in four simultaneous raids as part of an ongoing investigation into salary cap breaches at the Eels.
It is understood files belonging to former Eels players, including Jarryd Hayne, Kieran Foran, Nathan Peats, Justin Hunt and Reni Maitua, were seized during the raids that have show the hurt is not over for the Eels.
Ayoub last night said he was shocked that police broke into his Leichhardt office to seize at least three files that he would have happily handed over.
Ayoub, who manages current Eels Clint Gutherson, Kelepi Tanginoa, David Gower as well as former players Junior Paulo (Canberra), Hunt (Wests Tigers), Peats (Gold Coast), Beau Champion (retired) and Reece Robinson (rugby), is in Brisbane on business.
“There has never been anything to hide,’’ Ayoub said.
“And they could have could have contacted me at any stage and I would have handed over any files or documentation they wanted.
“To do it this way is very spurning. To be honest I feel quite embarrassed by it all because I could have given them the files they took at any time during the last six months that this has been part of an investigation.’’
