Wright orders more and more shooting

ADELAIDE coach Joey Wright wants to keep shooting the ball at a high percentage and take better care of the basketball this evening against winless Cairns.

The 36ers staged an audacious comeback last Sunday night against the Taipans’ Queensland neighbours in Brisbane to recover their record to 2-2 after two rounds of the new NBL season. A few nights earlier at home, the young 36ers were beaten by Melbourne United, on the back of 19 turnovers.

In the first of the Round 3 double-header tonight, Wright has instructed his 36ers to continue being aggressive with their shot selection.

The 36ers shot at a solid 59 per cent in their win over the Bullets and at 43 per cent in the loss to United.

“I am totally happy with that, if we shoot the ball at that clip and play good defence, I am happy with those shooting percentages,” Wright said.

“It is a young team, we need to make better decisions with the ball in hand.

“We will take a bad shot over a turnover any day.

“We need to get the ball up in the air and take better shots.

“This is a young team, they come in with a lot of energy every day, every training and every shoot around.”

“They bring a lot of energy. They have done a great job.”

Tonight on Brett Maher Court, members of Adelaide’s 1986 “Invincibles” championship team, which beat Brisbane in the inaugural best-of-three grand final, will be in attendance, celebrating the 30-year anniversary of their 24-2 season.
