Ambos take a stand

Furious paramedics are likely to return to court next month when a French backpacker is due to be sentenced over an alleged attack on their colleague. The solicitor for Timothee Leon Laurent Rousselle, 21, yesterday indicated he would plead guilty to seriously assaulting a public officer. As they emerged from court they were confronted by about 40 paramedics, union officials and supporters who had staged a silent protest over the alleged incident.

POLICE have charged an Innisfail school student after he allegedly posted a picture of himself holding a large gun and the words “Allahu ackbar” on social media.

The 17-year-old will front the Innisfail Magistrates Court next month charged with one count of threatening violence.

It came following his arrest while he was at school on Wednesday at Innisfail State College.

It is alleged the man put up the post on Facebook on Tuesday night as part of a joke between friends.

It was taken down quickly, but police were alerted to the incident by concerned community members.

It prompted a major police response with the Special Emergency Response Team travelling to Innisfail as part of the operation.

The teenager will appear in court on November 7.
