United duo find form in comfortable win

- JORDAN GERRANS

A RETURN to form from batsmen Bobby Brix and Linden March is a positive sign for the rest of the season, United opener Cameron Davis says.

United started the CFN round on the bottom of the ladder but cruised by Atherton at Griffiths Park 1 on Saturday on the back of strong knocks from Brix and March.

United rolled their opponents for 133 in the morning session and made the runs five down from 32.3 overs.

March was unbeaten on 54 from 79 balls, including three boundaries and four maximums, while Brix departed for 45 with the finish line in sight.

Brix averaged 15.89 from 17 digs while March averaged only about seven runs a game last season from 16 and Davis believes their form is a good sign for the club.

“Bobby Brix and Linden March came in at 2-26 and batted well to get us home,” said Davis, who made 15 at the top of the order.

“Bobby and Linden were disappointed with their season and how they went, they would be happy to get some runs early on in a win.

“They had some pretty poor numbers last season and that is a good sign for us as a club if they are batting well.”

Paul Nasser, 55 from 89 balls, played a lone hand in the Atherton innings, as James Lindsay took 3-12 and Arjun Maini cleaned up the tail to finish with 3-22.

“Everyone took a wicket who bowled, young James Lindsay was a standout, he took three wickets for not many at all,” Davis “Everyone chipped in.

“Getting (key Atherton opener) Gerard Fox out early on is almost the best start you can hope for.

“He has a very good record against us, so to get him out for just two is great, I can’t remember the last time we got him out cheaply.

“We took our catches and fielded well.” said.
