Taipans search for strike power

-

The total of 42 three-point attempts was a new NBL record for any team in a 40minute game.

The Snakes are last in the league in three-point percentage (28.6 per cent) and were the worst last season also.

Fearne is happy enough with the way the Taipans have defended in their three losses but says “we haven’t been very good offensively”.

The Snakes finally come home to host United at the Convention Centre where Fearne is hoping for a big improvement in offence.

“They have got a lot of talent but I am not too concerned about them,” Fearne said.

“It is about us playing the way we have in the pre-season and the way I want us to play.

“Defensively we are OK but we are not going to win averaging 70 points. We ain’t going to win anything doing that.

“This group has the potential to score 90 plus a game, but you are not going to average that the way we play.

“It is a short turnaround before we play Melbourne, we need to find some solutions.”

The Taipans continued to jack up triples with big men Nate Jawai and Nnanna Egwu playing fewer than 20 minutes.

“It’s the biggest issue we’ve got at the moment, that’s three games in a row,” Fearne said.

“We’ve defended well enough on the road to win games. We just can’t put any scoreboard pressure on anyone right now.”
