Make your Halloween fun

Halloween is the time to get the family together for fun. HALLOWEEN is the perfect time to get the family together for an evening full of spooky, festive fun.

Edmonton mum and Zed Hair hairstylist and beautician Kristie Sheehan said she used the festivities to treat her kids to costumes and theatrical make-up.

“We get involved with Halloween because my husband lived in Canada when he was younger, so he went trick-ortreating quite a lot,” she said.

“The kids went as a witch and a skeleton last year. I did their make-up, but it’s hard sometimes.

“The older one likes it, she likes the attention, but it can be a bit of a struggle with the younger one. He has to be in the right mood for it.”

Mrs Sheehan said her and her family liked to switch things up from year to year.

“We have gone to parties for some years and when we do we usually go up and down the street and collect lollies,” she said. “Other years we stay home and hand lollies out.

“When we give out lollies, my husband tends to reward kids more if they’ve put a bit of effort into their look.”

She said in her experience as both a mother and make-up artist, witches, zombies and skeletons were the consistent top picks for little ones and their parents.

“I’ve been known to go for a bit of a zombie look at parties,” Mrs Sheehan said. She said finding inspiration for a thrilling Halloween look for kids was just a click away.

“If you look up Halloween make-up on Pintrest and Google and other search engines you can get lots of ideas and inspiration,” she said.

“It’s just about having a bit of an artistic flair.”

She said the best place to go trick-or-treating was in suburbs with lots of families.

“People in Edmonton get quite into it,” she said.

She said that while her own kids were still undecided as exactly what they were going out as this Halloween, there was already talk of hitting the streets next Monday.

“The kids are already asking what they can go as,” she said.
