Winx and you will miss this champion

- BRAD DAVIDSON

HUGH Bowman believes Winx can chase down Black Caviar’s 25-run winning streak and expects Saturday’s Chipping Norton Stakes to be another walk in the park.

Bowman admits Black Caviar’s record is the furthest thing from his mind but the champion jockey sees no reason why Winx can’t surpass the winning streak providing she races on for long enough next year.

Winx’s winning streak stands at 14 with the champion mare most likely to have another seven starts in 2017.

“If she races for long enough (she can),” Bowman said. “I guess it has a lot to do with her health and wellbeing really. The form she is in at the moment it looks like she will never lose, doesn’t it?

“But it’s a horse race and scenarios happen and it really couldn’t be further from my mind whether she can or cannot run down Black Caviar.

“Even the winning sequence right now of 14, the prizemoney record and all that stuff, for me, it’s not really important. Sure, I’ll look back at it and appreciate it but to me it’s about her health and wellbeing and making sure I do my job and enjoying her for what she is.”

Winx won the Apollo Stakes by 2 ¾ lengths in a canter first-up and Bowman expects her to win Saturday’s Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in similar fashion. Winx is a $1.10 favourite in TAB’s all-in Chipping Norton market with Hartnell once again considered her main danger at $8.
