A CAUSE FOR ALL THE AGES

THE vibe at the pro-choice Cairns rally on the weekend was one of solidarity and support. Women of all ages marched with their pets, their babies, and their tambourines, while men joined them in chanting ‘our bodies, our lives, our choice’. The diversity in the crowd was remarkable. Young girls were marching beside their mothers, while ladies who looked like the nice grandma from next door waved signs decrying ”Healthcare is not a crime” and ”Drag Queensland abortion laws out of the 19th century – vote yes!”. The almost overwhelming feeling of support at this rally could make anyone wonder what struggles the women there had gone through. It was clear that these people were willing to fight until they saw the change to the Queensland criminal code that they wanted.
