Cyclones blow into town for final showdown

- JORDAN GERRANS

GRIDIRON THE Cairns Falcons will be out to finish their season on a positive note at the final “Grudge Match” against Townsville on Saturday.

In game six of the sevengame series, the Falcons lost to the Cyclones 30-12 on Saturday in Townsville.

Falcons quarterback Kristian Suares passed for two touchdowns, to David Nash and Henry Burns, but the Cyclones had too much on their home deck.

“I am really proud of our team this season,” Falcons coach David Tibbetts said.

“We have continued to grow our gridiron knowledge base and in-game execution.

“Our core veterans and team leaders have carried the team well this year and our inexperienced players continue to improve.

“There is no better way to improve than actual game time with an opponent.”

Tibbetts gave out a rare game ball to Henry Burns for an exceptional effort in this game on both offence and defence. The two clubs will hold a final “Grudge Match” at the Falcons home field, Holloways Beach Sporting Complex, on Saturday from 5pm.

“We invite and encourage interested Cairns community members to come join in support,” Tibbetts said.

“Enjoy some food and drinks and also live entertainment after the game.”
