Gold Coast dirty about duo’s carryover suspension
ANGRY Gold Coast City FC coach Grae Piddick has slammed Football Queensland’s handling of FNQ Heat suspensions from 2016.
Bronson Koppen and MJ Nkiwane missed last night’s 3-2 loss for their parts in an allin brawl in the final game of the home-and-away season against SWQ Thunder but played in the 2016 semi-final.
Piddick only learnt of their bans, imposed two months after the incident, when he arrived on Saturday.
The governing body’s handling of the situation rekindled the sour taste of being forced to travel north for the semifinal last year despite finishing higher on the ladder then losing the game.
Further insult was added when his side lost in injury time amid what he perceived as a number of questionable calls, including a first-half penalty awarded to Crios O’Hare.
“Without digging up deep wounds, why weren’t they suspended last year when they should have been, but you know that’s something we have to live with,” Piddick said.
“It doesn’t affect the result (on Saturday) but when I found out about it, it was a bit of a bitter taste from last year.
