Child porn fiend jailed

Just like going to the pub, ‘horny man’ told police

A TULLY man who was caught with almost 12,000 child pornography images denied doing anything wrong and compared his behaviour with “going to the pub”.

Tapani Henrik Hakkinen told police five times in August last year “I’ve done nothing wrong” because he had not made the child pornography.

“Every image of every child that you had in your possession ... Every one of those children was exploited,” Judge David Reid said.

He expressed particular concern over Hakkinen’s attitude, saying his comments to police that his offending was “like going fishing or going to the pub” influenced his decision in sending the 43-year-old to jail.

Charles Martin, for Crown Prosecutions, said Hakkinen had been caught with 11,842 individual child pornography files.

About 90 per cent of the files were category one images, the least serious category.

These showed children aged between five and 10 years old in erotic poses.

Mr Martin said Hakkinen “insisted the category one material was just child modelling”.

The Cairns District Court was told the defendant had admitted to police he was a virgin and described himself as a “horny man”.

The court was told he turned his attention to something younger because he said “they won’t judge me”.

He also possessed category two, three, four and five — which are the worst — images showing young girls under the age of 10 involved in sex acts with adult men, sadism, bestiality and humiliation.

Judge Reid described Hakkinen, who went to high school in Tully, as “socially isolated”.

Defence barrister Roger Griffith said his client lived with his mother.

Hakkinen, who pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material from 2009, was jailed for 21 months with parole eligibility after nine months.
