Academy stars headed to Singapore

NETBALL SINGAPORE is now on the horizon for the Kenfrost Homes Vicki Wilson Marlin Coast Netball Academy.

The Australian legend, Wilson, and high-performanc­e coach and former Firebird Tracey Bruce were in the Far North recently as they chose a squad at YMCA Smithfield.

The pair put 42 girls through their paces in hot and humid conditions before cutting down to 12 players.

Marlin Coast Netball president Heather McLaren is pleased with the squad.

“They will work under their local satellite coaches with their home programs and in May Vicki will return to work with the players on their specialist areas,” McLaren said.

“The squad will then travel to Singapore in June for a training camp and match play.

“Vicki and Tracey were busy with the afternoon session with 40 players representi­ng the region’s Junior Marlins program for under-13 players, starting their regional journey.”

Sponsorshi­ps were presented to four players, which will be used to further their pathways in their chosen field.
