THE CDRL Round 3 fixture between Southern Suburbs and Edmonton will now take place on Saturday night at Alley Park, Gordonvale. The two A-grade teams will battle for the Ryan Deemal Memorial Shield, an annual event since 2009. Under19s take place at 4pm, reserve grade at 5.30pm and A-grade at 7pm this Saturday.

Jedi on the move

FOR years he has been the rock of midfield for club and country, but now a change of role beckons for Mile Jedinak — even if he doesn’t sound enthralled by the idea. Jedinak revealed he has been asked by Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce to consider a permanent role as a central defender. “The change of position in the last couple of games takes a bit of getting used to, but I’ve got full belief and confidence in doing a job there,” he said.

Dan may be the man

DANIEL Ricciardo is ready to launch his F1 quest at the Australian GP this weekend, but has conceded he is not banking on the title landing in his lap this year. The Australian will hit the track for their first practice at Albert Park tomorrow. “I kind of learned a few years ago that obviously you come to win and you want to win every race and no one has ever done that, so you have got to expect to not always win,’’ Ricciardo said.

Bern’s notice

BERNARD Tomic’s Davis Cup exile is unlikely to end for next month’s quarter-final tie with the US as the Queensland­er’s form rut deepens amid the absence of peace talks with Lleyton Hewitt. Tomic opted out of the firstround tie against Czech Republic in February, citing scheduling issues. While Hewitt has been close to Tomic, he was critical in the wake of the Cup snub of Tomic’s father, claiming John Tomic wields too much influence.

Duo in big trouble

COMMONWEAL­TH Games 400m hurdles champion Kaliese Spencer and world championsh­ip relay medallist Riker Hylton have been charged with breaching anti-doping rules, Jamaican athletics officials confirmed. “Both athletes are alleged to have violated article 2.3 of the said rules (anti-doping) which speaks to ‘Evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection’,” a Jamaica Athletics Administra­tive Associatio­n statement read.
