Owners hope new Magic spreads

RACING FAR North trainers Fred Wieland and Roy Chillemi will trot out a few new talented youngsters soon following the Magic Millions March QTIS Sale.

Cairns-based Wieland and Tolga’s Chillemi, as well as Rob and Jane Koch, Trevor Rowe and Rhonda Inglis, were all in the buying mood at the sales earlier this week with 10 new horses on the way north.

Chillemi and former Cairns Jockey Club president Tom Hedley, through Group 1 Pty Ltd, will bring three horses to Tolga, at a price of $84,000.

Wieland, a renowned trainer of babies, spent $61,000 on two yearlings.

Trevor Rowe $32,000 .................... Group 1 in the Cairns region, a major boost for an industry needing fresh talent.

Prominent Far North horse owner Koch said he would have liked to see more horses purchased.

“I think we need more. I would be happy to see that amount again come in,” Koch said.

“Given the two-year-old race at Cannon Park on Saturday did not have enough nomination­s.

“I would not like to see it have a negative impact on racing.”

Turf stars including Buffering, Spirit of Boom and Winning Rupert came from the QTIS Magic Millions Yearling Sales.

All the horses will be eligible for the added stakes money available in the QTIS racing program.
