Bob after presence

- LAUREN WOOD

BOB Murphy is like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Tonight, 348 days after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in Round 3 last year, he will return to the field.

“I feel pretty good for an old bloke,” Murphy said with a smile. “I feel fit enough and I’m injury-free and I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s good to be on the doorstep of a new year, and it’s nice to be looking forward to being out there. It’s a pretty optimistic time of year.

“Everyone’s on top of the ladder at the moment, so it’s a nice feeling.”

Heading into a 17th season, Murphy, 34, considers himself on “bonus time” and concedes that for a while, he was “a lot closer to not playing on’’ than playing on.
